Game of Thrones is the eagerly anticipated role-playing adventure game created in partnership with George R. R. Martin, the author of the book of the same name. This game is brilliantly inspired by the author's award winning and international bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy book series, with the narrative set alongside the events of the first novel Game of Thrones.
The game tells the tale of two playable characters and their two quests: Mors, member and sworn brother of the Night's Watch, and Alester, a Red Priest searching for redemption. The style of the narrative is inspired by how the books have been written, with the two protagonist's stories told alternatively, chapter by chapter, up until their lives and journeys cross paths during their adventures in the continent of Westeros. Along the way they will encounter various characters and relive and re-enact various events from the A Song of Ice and Fire series. You will get to experience the fascinating universe of Game of Thrones first hand in this thrilling medieval adventure, finding yourself and your fate influenced by vengeance, allegiance, family, and honour in a world shaped by lies, conspiracy, and betrayal.
Game of Thrones combines all the elements that make for an excellent RPG, including thorough and detailed character customisation, so that you can completely tailor them to your specifications. Choose their class, style of combat, their strengths and weaknesses, and more. Your actions and choices that you make throughout the game will have consequences, no matter how great or small, within the story and the overall outcome of the game. Dialogue itself plays an important part, with your character presented with a variety of responses that tie in with the aspects of their personality. Dialogue can help you as much as hinder you; every response you make can have important consequences. Your political skills also play a part in dialogue, meaning you can get out of difficult situations in a peaceful manner, as well as gain experience.
The combat within Game of Thrones uses an active pause system, which means that at any point within combat the character has the option to slow down time. This gives you the best possible chance of victory as you can properly analyse the situation and react appropriately to it, and make the right decision as to which move you should make next. Up to three special attacks can be planned for each character, giving you the choice as to when to execute you in order to deal the most damage at every opportunity you find yourself presented with. This system places great emphasis on the various tactical elements of battle, giving you a definite edge when it comes to strategy, and lends a great hand in victory.
Some assets and character design from the locations and characters from the TV series of the same name on HBO have been used, as well as having actors from the show performing dialogue for the game. This allows the game to stay true to what fans of both the book and TV series have become accustomed to, giving it a sense of consistency. In order to do the series complete justice, A Game of Thrones has been developed with the Unreal Engine 3, allowing the game creators to produce stunning visual environments, characters, animations, and textures that truly bring home the atmosphere of the incredible world of Westeros.
