The Worst Of The Worst

The first iteration of the Suicide Squad appeared in The Brave And The Bold #25 (1959). However, writer John Ostrander was the one who helped modernise the team with his take on Task Force X in Legends #3 (1987), introducing Amanda Waller and the concept of a government-managed collective of incarcerated villains.

In 2016, the first live-action film adaptation of Suicide Squad was released. Directed by David Ayer, the movie features elite hitman Deadshot (Will Smith), Clown Princess Of Crime Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), ex-gangster El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), the mutant Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Aussie thief Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), trained rope climber Slipknot (Adam Beach), and possessed archaeologist Dr. June Moone (Cara Delevingne).

Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), a senior government official, proposes the creation of a villainous team to deal with superhuman threats — having been influenced by the existence of the now deceased Superman (Henry Cavill). In return for reduced sentences and incentivised by neck-implanted bombs, the convicts would carry out missions with a high probability of death.

Led by Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), the team is sent to Midway City to deal with a powerful witch called the Enchantress. Along the way, they must also contend with the Joker (Jared Leto), who intends to rescue Harley.
