Fantastic remake!

I've bought XCOM Enemy Unknown because I'm a fan of the original, to this day I still play UFO: Enemy Unknown and XCOM: Terror From the Deep. Considering how bad the other sequels were I can say I was afraid, but I was wrong. This game is amazing, it has all the same feel and style even the slightly cartoon feel to the character design. Things have been a little streamlined mainly in the tactical portion of the game but it still hasn't lost the tactical feel. It's great to watch your guys blow those pesky aliens to pieces. If you already know and love the old game then buy this one, if you don't then buy it anyway because it's great!

If you give XCOM Enemy Unknown your time and attention, you will be rewarded with one of the games of the year. Starting in Easy mode, you will be led by the hand at the start of proceedings and, to newcomers, this is needed. But, once you have succeeded in your first mission, you are drawn into the game and it will not let go! This game gives more value than any other game since Skyrim. This is highly recommended!

XCOM Enemy Unknown is a good game and desperately wanted for Christmas by a gaming fiend. This is a good price but it no longer comes with the Elite Soldier download code.

Very good indeed

XCOM Enemy Unknown is in my opinion a very balanced and addictive game if you play it on normal mode. On higher levels, like classic or iron man, it starts getting very challenging, most of the time even quite unfair because of the terrible hit-percentage of your troops and the circus like shots of the aliens which, of course, hit. Nonetheless, it has a high replay value, though on some stages it can become a little too repetitive. The game itself is quite similar to the structure of the original, though a few minor changes have been made within - which are not necessarily negative. To sum it up it has been a little simplified.

Buy XCOM Enemy Unknown, it's a belter. I know it's big game season, but this is so good I've chalked up 43 hours in four days and I want more in the near future. XCOM absorbs you into a universe of Tonka toy soldiers and B-movie science-fiction. It's a rich and smartly streamlined strategy experience that's a credit to the design of the 1994 original. XCOM brings back and revitalises a classic.

An easily missed, yet unforgetable game

After a friend recommended a review, I became quite interested in the whole idea of this game. A difficult, challenging and intense combat system that almost revolves around a board game style play combined with a tactical base construction and management that directly impacts the outcome of the game. This may not be for the casual gamer though, "I can play for 10 hours and loose...?". Yes, you can. But the threat of having to start over or at least go back a few hours into the campaign keeps you focused making each decision you need to make a key one. This may sound like over attentive management but it never strays away from the games objective, to keep you on your toes and always trying to think several turns ahead. That's the base side of things anyway, the real lure of this game is of course the combat system. Easiest way to put it is quite frankly chess with aliens. Your squad of between 4-6 soldiers have two actions a turn, which they can use to move, shoot, or use a skill or item in thier possesion. Realistic tactical advantages come into play here, high ground and solid cover give you an advantage to aim and defence. The car nearest to your squadmate may provide the best cover but a few misplaced shots could see them get killed. This system has you constantly appraising the advantages of moving over shooting. "Do i miss a turns shooting so that I guarantee a kill next turn or do I take that chance now and risk getting nowhere". The final thing I'll mention is the squad customisation. Whilst it may seem trivial, the fact that you can have female and male squad members plays a big part in getting attached to your characters. Naming them after your best friends, family or even favourite TV characters will make you want to keep them alive. I cannot praise this game enough, if you're only curious then at least try the demo but I can only suggest that you take the plunge into what I hope will be a re-emmerging classic.

Honoring it's roots

This was a very unexpected and equally pleasant surprise every step of the way. It's designed to keep you going and always say to yourself "only one more mission, only one more research" and before you know it, the clock is smiling back at you with unreasonable hours. It was a gamble from the creators but still a tad too conservative. I hope the sucess of the game leads to not only more ambitious DLC as implementing a lot more things from the old game, like assaulting varied enemy bases, and they yours, take the fight to them, etc. All in all, a great game! A must have!!
