Fun, new, excellent

The Silent Hill HD Collection was a very scary game back in the day (and still is). It's well worth your money. It brings back the true Silent Hill spirit.

The good old Silent Hill games...

5

I loved the early Silent hill games and didn't quite enjoy the latest games as much. Those who played Silent Hill 2 will remember the chilling atmosphere, sounds and creatures that made you pull the duvet around you tightly when you went to bed that night. With an exciting storyline and shady characters, it made for great gameplay. The ability to get different endings kept you playing over and over again, and choosing both puzzle difficulty and action (fighting) difficulty meant you could challenge yourself more each time if you so desired. A beginner difficulty also suited those who wanted to experience the story and atmosphere without very many creatures to fight. Silent Hill 3 was also an exciting game with similar gameplay and of course scares, as well as a captivating story. I was excited when I heard of the HD remake which meant being able to own these 2 excellent games for Xbox 360. The addition of better graphics, new voices (if you want to use them), and achievements meant the series was brought to life again in an exciting way. This is recommended for both fans of the series and newbies. If you like a good story, some action and puzzle solving, and some jumpy parts and chilling moments, then give it a go! This is great value for money!

Horror collection

4

Silent Hill series has seen many titles, and now we can play the true classics on the next generation consoles with the Silent Hill HD Collection. With this new package you can feel the horror of Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams and Silent Hill 3 with better looks and new voice-overs (or you could stick with the old ones in SH2, if you want). So if you couldn't play these games until now or if you are a fan of the series, the HD Collection may interest you. Have fun!

Silent Hill HD Collection is an absolute blast from the past. It looks great in widescreen and the newly recorded voices are a lot better than the originals. I would highly recommended this.

I'm a Silent Hill fan, and I'm pleased with the Silent Hill HD Collection. The conversion is OK, and I can continue playing this amazing title from PS2 on my Xbox 360.

Real Survival Horror

5

For those gamers who love the survival horror genre there is no better collection than Silent Hill HD. Having played through some recent titles and finding them to be wanting (Resi 6 and the recent Silent Hill games), this collection is a great reminder of how the genre used to be. A truly spooky atmosphere and a real sense of fear and panic when exploring the town of Silent Hill makes this worthwhile for newcomers and veterans alike. If like me you have been disappointed of late, then this an excellent title to tide over horror fans until the terrifying Dead Space 3 arrives to send us hiding behind the sofa.

The greatest survival horror package ever (maybe)

4

The Silent Hill HD Collection is a package of (arguably) the two finest games in the Silent Hill franchise, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. For those that don't know the games they are tense, atmospheric, and downright creepy third person adventures set in the fictional town of Silent Hill. You follow the story of a character as they explore the foggy, desolate town of Silent Hill; desolate that is except for a few strange, haunted people and lots of deliciously creepy monsters. Monsters must be dealt with using a clunky combat system which was designed that way in order to make you feel like a normal person in trouble, as opposed to some sort of super soldier. Combat will give you real problems but then again it isn't the focus of the game and you can almost always choose to flee instead. The main focus of the games are exploration and story which are perfectly married as the creepy town begs to be explored and tells the story through its twisting turns as much as the cut scenes do. These games drip atmosphere at every turn, with sound design in particular being spectacular and years ahead of its time, and the enemy designs are at a series high. However, in making this HD collection there are a few problems. Firstly it doesn't look particularly HD and in some cases what graphical cleaning they did undertake made it look worse (I'm looking at the lake section in particular). More worrying though, the games have aged very poorly with the combination of tank controls (thank God they disappeared in recent times) and the clunky combat system proving a major hurdle which some players undoubtedly will never climb. Despite the problems though these remain pinnacles of survival horror and Silent Hill 2 is possibly one of the greatest stories told in video gaming, still being analysed to this day for its hidden subtexts. They are well worth playing for any true gamer, but beware; if you didn't play them the first time round their old school design can seem archaic and less enjoyable now. For the rest of us though, rose tinted nostalgia makes this a welcome return to a franchise that was never better than with these two games.

Silent Hill HD Collection

3

Silent Hill is one of the best horror game series ever!(next to Project Zero, Resident Evil and Dead Space of course) But as some other HD remakes there are always some flaws in them like Silent Hill had good and improved picture quality but also with some bad new and un-needed voice acting the controls are the same but a bit wonky and last but not least there is no SH4 as well so it is not a complete collection. Overall I say it had some problems but it would be worth it sometime if it's two classic games you'll ever loved.

Great compilation

4

Excellent compilation, it contains games 2 & 3 of the saga. Great current playability even though the games were developed years ago for PS2, helped by the HD graphics conversion.
