Mortal Kombat is the revamped and revitalised ninth instalment in the legendary and world renowned Mortal Kombat fighting game series, developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game brings the trademark style of the series with a bang by perfectly fusing this 2D fighting game with 3D graphics, and making it jam-packed with aggression and extreme violence, bringing the franchise back to its fantastic and well loved roots.
The emperor Shao Kahn has brought the thunder god Raiden down to his knees in battle, finally defeating him and about to deliver the final blow to end his life for good. Raiden knows he cannot let Shao Kahn win, and casts a spell upon his now shattered magical amulet, sending it back to the past to give a message to his past self... "He must win". In order to save the future of the world, first he must change the past, and his past self receives a premonition of the future from the amulet. Coming to the conclusion that in order to prevent the events he foresaw from becoming true, Raiden must now decipher his future self's message, and save the future. It is up to you to rewrite history.
The combat system has been re-engineered and refined, making it a highly competitive experience that can appeal to both newcomers to the gameplay, as well as those more skilled at Mortal Kombat that want to incorporate more strategy. Each character has a basic set of moves as well as standard special attacks and combos that are easy for any player to use from the get go, whereas stringing together attacks and juggling moves require more skill and experience. Gameplay has been designed to be both deliberate and savage, making each special move and Fatality that you execute more visceral than the last, appealing to even the most bloodthirsty of Mortal Kombat fans.
The fighting engine brings back all the incredible violence and gore that the series has become renowned for, as well as adding in gruesome sound effects that accompany the grisly kills that will make your skin crawl. An interesting new feature has been introduced called the super gauge that fills as you both give and receive damage, and which is split into three segments that you can spend in different ways. Spending one segment enhances your character's special moves, spending two segments means you can break out of your foe's combo, and spending three will unleash a devastating, bone crunching x-ray attack. The x-ray attack can completely decimate your opponent and also turn the tide of a fight, showcasing the damage your character does to an enemy via x-ray, even showing bones breaking in the most painful of ways.
Alongside the single player storyline, the game can be played in both traditional one-on-one or in a two-on-two tag battle that allows up to four people to play at once, which adds for variety in gameplay as more characters playing introduces a range of tag battle specific moves. There is also the single player Challenge Tower, which is a collection of three hundred tasks that aim to put every gaming and combat skill you have learnt from playing Mortal Kombat to the test. With such a wide range of gameplay, combat, modes, multiplayer options, and vast amounts of bonus content to buy, this ninth instalment of Mortal Kombat is easily head and shoulders above the rest. Finish him! (Cat Emerson)

Kombat is Kool again
This new Mortal Kombat truly nails everything that made the original and its sequel such a blast to play when they first arrived some 20 years ago. It's got fast pacing, it's got neat visuals, it's got cool moves and it's got those lovely fatalities which made this franchise into what it's all about: mortal kombat.

...second only to Street Fighter
Okay, Im a little biased. I grew up playing Street Fighter 2 on the SNES and have put quite a bit of time in to the fouth core title in the series also. But I decided to give Mortal Kombat a spin as I was feeling a bit nostalgic and noticed the price has dropped considerably. MK is a frantic button basher that can become a strategic hardcore challenge on the higher difficulty settings. There is a wide selection of game modes and secrets to unlock to keep you playing, all the familiar fighters return each with signature moves and complete with the all important fatalities. Street Fighter will always be my number one fighting game, but this is certainly the most polished and balanced Mortal Kombat game in many years. And at this price I highly recommend it!

Best Mortal Kombat
Great fighting game, combat is easy to learn and master, nothing difficult like Street Fighter or Tekken. A lot of free content to be unlocked (more fatalities, costumes, blueprints, artworks, stages), great story mode, nice graphics and finally bloody fatalities are back. Everyone step aside, bloodiest king of fighting games has arrived. 5/5

Never grows old!!!
It is plausible to tell you that only because of this game I bought the prefix! It is a classic of a genre, and with such graphics simply super!!! I advise to all to buy - won't regret!!! The best fighting, the others will grow dim before it!

Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat is a very good game, whilst being characteristically brutal. It combines nicely though, to end up being a lot of fun. The new combat action is the ability to play in 1 round with 2 players either side, like in the catching arena. So go on and order the game. It's brilliant.

Excellent!
Mortal Kombat at its finest! I'm glad they have gone back to the roots with part 9 of the series. The classic 2D arcade hit from 1992 combined with amazing graphics and a fluent gameplay. That's 5 stars for me!

Mortal Kombat
This game sets itself apart from any other fighting games, just for the fact it is so massively appreciated. It is definitely my favourite fighting game ever. I would never hesitate to recommend it.

Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat is definitely back! This release is faithful to what made the franchise a major success: the atmosphere, the gameplay, the incredible fatalities of the numerous charismatic characters, and even more... In fact, everything has been improved and now stands head and shoulders above what you expect from a great fighting game: sharp and detailed graphics, fast and perfectly fluid animation, terrific sound and so much content to unlock! Moreover, the solo story mode is particularly great, with a real storyline and nice cutscenes and transitions (contrary to most of fighting games). I consider this Mortal Kombat instalment an excellent surprise, as I wasn't expecting such a successful come back to the sources. Any fighting game lover should have it in their collection, especially if you liked the original MK game. Enjoy.

Great fighting game
Mortal Kombat does not need introductions. It's Fun, Fast and incredibly Visceral and the "Story" mode is unique for a fighting game and very interesting from both, telling a story and providing an interesting fight for you to learn the games characters and moves. Just get it!
