Mass Effect 3 (PC)

A very refined game, which takes the action from big Hollywood blockbusters and delivers the control of the story to you. There is none better than the Mass Effect series to build a complete universe of epic proportions! This last episode completes the saga with a feeling of intense and satisfying conclusion to the first two, whilst staying true to the game mechanics, but also improving on many different levels. There are a few awkward camera moments in combat situations, but all can be forgiven due to the immense fun it brings, and flows pretty well in a multiplayer platform as well. One final word for this monster of a game on all platforms - But it now!

Great Game

Having finish the single player story, I can honestly say that I very much enjoyed the game and conclusion to the trilogy series. I imported my save from Mass Effect 2, and set about destroying the Reapers. The combat is more intense than the previous game, but it made it more fun. The story is as good as ever and it is nice to see familiar faces. I've just started a second play-through as well as toying with the online multiplayer which is great fun so far. Waves of enemies and ammo dumps make the carnage very enjoyable and it helps enhance the single player. I would recommend to anyone, especially fans of the series.

A staggering finale to an exciting trilogy

5

I was unsure what to expect with this one. Despite being one of my 2 favourite games series (Far Cry is the other) I was put off a touch by the trailers which all suggested it was going to centre around a lot of combat on Earth in a more MW3 mold. Luckily that's not the case. After a good opening (not as cinematic as ME1 or as heart-stopping as ME2) you start a similar campaign style to the one in ME2, running urgent missions and gathering a few squadmates as you go. I can't go into much detail on any aspect of the plot, as it's a game loaded with well-spaced surprises. To the immense credit of the writers and designers, they've managed the holy trinity of writing on this game: they've managed to bring in almost every character you ever liked from the previous 2 games (as long as you didn't get them killed) in a way that makes you thrilled to see them without making it feel like they were shoe-horned into the plot. They've managed to make the combat and missions even better-written and more exciting. And they've managed what few studios dare: they've given the game a real 'all bets are off' feeling that anything at all could happen. The missions are all tightly-scripted and directly affect the potential outcome of the enormous galactic war that's brewing. Many of them also put you in a position to witness the exact scale of the gigantic carnage and struggle that you're facing, which really reinforces the danger posed by your relentless enemies, the Reapers. They're fast and exciting with great weapons and powers to access, and genuinely useful AI team-mates who have good pathfinding and don't need you to bail them out. Little beats the feeling of making it out of some of these scrapes intact. The graphics and scenes are amazingly cinematic, and the writing ensures that character is king - many of the moments were genuinely emotional and affecting. Scanning of planets for resources, which could become tedious in the previous game, has been rendered exciting by being stripped to basics and frequently involving trying to escape a terrifying charge of Reapers as they blast into your area with a deep bass note and chase you out of the star System. Best of all though is the writing. I've never known a game present me with so many major moral dilemmas that genuinely affect the outcome and ask me to decide between the lesser of two evils. By allowing you to import your saves from the previous games, you genuinely feel invested in all these races and characters, and the impact of having to make galaxy-shaking decisions is incredible. (Although the game did struggle to import my character's face properly due to a change of the 'looks' available, so I had to rebuild her by checking a screenshot from the previous game). The game also has the most 'grown up' and astounding ending I've seen in years with huge ramifications no matter what happens. It's polarised many gamers, but I adored it for its bravery. Bring on more like it, please. The multiplayer - a first for the series - is fun and fast with a mix of species, weapons and players, and by setting 4 players against waves of AI enemies it also forces players to give a damn and revive any fallen colleagues if they're going to survive. Incredibly exciting, beautiful and complex, with some of the most astounding scenes of emotion and intergalactic battles you may ever see - this is The Dark Knight of videogames.

To sum Mass Effect 3 into a couple of separate words, I would have to use the following; Epic. Awesome. Game of the year. Mass Effect 3 is a great example of a definite must-own title, that builds on the experience of previous games in the series in an awe-inspiring way! For any fans of RPG games, it's a necessity. I highly recommend it.

It's difficult to review Mass Effect 3 accurately. For 99% of the time, anyone with a passing interest in the Mass Effect universe will be swept up in one foul swoop, as this is easily one of the greatest games of this generation. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll punch the air at points in the story, but when put into words, it really can't be stressed enough what a fantastic story it is that you're playing through. Simply put, the last ten minutes ruin the game. The sudden, jarring disconnect of the finale is not just bad, but actively makes everything you've done in the previous 3 games completely pointless. There's no replay value after this point, and no sense of satisfaction at finishing the series. Effectively, Bioware have crafted a story that draws you in tightly for hundreds of hours of content, only to slap you in the face at the final point. Up to that point, I recommend this game very highly.

Massively Amazing

What a fantastic game! Each chapter in the Mass Effect saga builds on the last, and each is better than the previous. If you like adventure games where you get to choose how the story unfolds you will love this. The acting is very professional and the story hooks you from the start and does not let go of you. You will want to play it again and again just to see what different decisions will do.

Mass Effect 3 was everything I came to expect from the finale of this series. It had everything - the graphics, the game-play. All of it was breathtaking. Also, the inclusion of the multi-player mode put some people off, but I think it was excellent and really adds a lot of replay-ability to it. I highly recommend it.

Mass Effect 3 is a fantastic culmination of a breath-taking trilogy, that is well-deserving of it. The game-play is the best around in any first-person-shooter at the moment, and the graphics are stunning. Need I say more?

Having played Mass Effect 2, I had to have Mass Effect 3! The game-play itself is brilliant, and so are the graphics. The origin software you have to have is a real pain, and I personally hate it, but there's a downside to everything great isn't there? I highly recommend Mass Effect 3.
