Whether the disc is an audio CD, game disc, DVD or computer software disc, the data is stored in a spiral track of pits molded into a plastic layer. The laser lens system of the CD/DVD/video game player reads the disc by passing a laser beam through the clear plastic, reflecting off of an aluminium layer and hitting a device that detects changes in light.
