Welcome To U.A. High School

Written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia began as a manga series and made its debut in 2014. The story is set in a fantasy world where most of the population has superhuman powers. These people are known as ‘Quirks’. Professional superheroes are common, but there is one young boy named Izuku Midoriya who is born ‘Quirkless’ (without superpowers).

Izuku Midoriya dreams of becoming a hero and is bullied by the violent Katsuki Bakugo for lacking a Quirk. One day, Izuku stands up for another child being bullied by Katsuki, and they are surprised when All Might, one of the world’s greatest heroes, hands down his ‘One For All’ powers to Izuku after seeing the youth's determination in the face of danger.

After Uzuku enrols in U.A. High School (a place designed to educate superheroes) alongside Bakugo, he learns that being a hero is much more complicated and dangerous than he first thought.

Throughout the course of the series, audiences are introduced to a variety of characters: All Might (the former number-one hero who bore the title of the world's Symbol Of Peace), Ochaco Uraraka (also known as Uravity), Tenya Iida (also known as Ingenium), Eijiro Kirishima (also known as the Sturdy Hero: Red Riot), and Shoto Todoroki — amongst others.

As well as the manga series, there has been an anime and a number of different films, such as Two Heroes (2018) and Heroes Rising (2019). Heroes Rising ranked third at the Japanese box office during its opening weekend, earning ¥422 million.
