World's Greatest Dad
4I just watched World's Greatest Dad on DVD. Starring Robin Williams and written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait. A brilliantly dark comedy/drama about the death of a 15 year old son of a high school teacher. Not for everyone but I highly recommend you rent and watch. For fans of Donnie Darko and Shakes the Clown and other independant films.

WORLDS GREATEST DAD
3Kyle is the typical teenage boy. He’s obsessed with porn and accidentally kills himself when partaking in a spot of experimental masturbation. Lance returns home from a date and discovers, to his absolute horror, the unfortunate event. Not wanting the authorities to find his son in such an embarrassing position, he strings him up from his closet, writes a suicide note and when it is republished in the high school paper, it becomes a literary sensation. The earlier scenes are much more successful at exploring the lives of its characters. Indeed the main premise, which comes in just after half way through its one hour and thirty-five minutes running time, feels as if it comes from another film entirely. Before that there’s a nice, measured unrushed pace as we see the daily lives of Lance and Kyle unfolding in scenes of mutual angst. Lance has an infatuation and a very loose relationship with a fellow teacher, but he suspects her of seeing other men. It doesn’t help that another colleague gets a short story published in The New Yorker at the first time of trying

Robin Williams back on our screens
4It's been quite a while since Robin Williams was on our screens. Like him or loathe him, he certainly has a distinctive acting character. If you're a fan of his then you will like this film. The story tells of an imbitious but frustrated man, stuck in a daily grind with not a lot going for him. He finally manages to achieve his dreams but must wrestle with his conscious over the method. Definitely an entertaining watch.

World's Greatest Dad
4Hats off to Robin Williams for changing gear and embracing the darkness in World's Greatest Dad, It could so easily have been called The World’s Worst Son, Sadly, the ending seems unsatisfying but the journey there is a funny one. Well worth watching and will fastly get a cult like following

A great effort by Bobcat Goldthwaite
4World's Greatest Dad is the touching story about a frustrated writer, Robin Williams, teaching at a High School where his outcast teenage son also attends. On frequent occaisions he catches his son "pleasuring himself" sometimes involving auto-erotic asphyxiation. One of these attempts leads his son to die accidentally. When the father finds his son dead he decides to disguise the death as a suicide, forging a suicide note by his own hand and, unwittingly becoming a successful writer in his son's name. World's Greatest Dad is an awkward film, beautiful, touching, tear-jerking and thought-provoking. As a comedy it is very, very black which is possibly why it polorises its audience. Robin Williams coasts through the scenes with his rubber features which you're never really quite sure are poised in a mocking smile or holding back the tears. I took off one star simply because some of the supporting roles (especially RW's girlfriend) are a bit one-dimensional and slightly too farsical. While this film may leave you uncomfortable it is never hard to watch. Highly recommended.
