Smiley's People; The bespectacled spymaster is once more called from retirement to come to the aid of the 'Circus' - and he returns with a vengeance. The murder of an migr Soviet General who was also a British agent, sends him digging into the past on a twisted trail across Europe that moves, inexorably, towards a final showdown with his old adversary, Karla of Moscow Centre. Sir Alec Guinness, the definitive Smiley, brings John le Carre's greatest creation to life in this acclaimed dramatisation. Compulsive to the end.;Tinker, Tailer, Soldier, Spy;Who can spy on the spies? Some say George Smiley is in innocent retirement. Others say he was sacked after a Czech scandal. But all agree that nobody ever leaves the "circus" without some unfinished business. Brought out of retirement to trace an enemy infiltrator in the department where he was once the prize employee, the shy and retiring master of espionage moves forwards to investigate and finds himself going backwards over very old ground. Sir Alec Guiness is the definitive Smiley in this superb BBC adaptation of John le Carr's gripping novel.

Great BBC programmes
I watched both series on TV as a kid. Loved it then love it now. Great Alec Guinnes, great television! Pity the second Smiley's book was never filmed.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy / Smiley's People
After watching the new movie Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, I read numerous reviews stating that the original series were a lot better, since there was time for character development. It is an intriguing story about spies during the cold-war and its main character George Smiley, a retired British agent who is called back into service. This is not a "James Bond" TV series. It is a realistic world depiction and it is a very slow pace at times. If you know this beforehand, then it is very rewarding to watch something that takes the time it needs to show the proper setting. I highly recommend it.

Tinker taylor Soldier Spy
Having watched the the latest Film at the cinema I decided to watch the original BBC version. It was as transmitted and so at the end of each episode the credits where shown, though this was fast forwarded. I found the BBC version was far better than the film, which was edited to fit within the standard film time length.

Wicked series
Went to the cinema watching the remake, remembered the original series but was too young to follow it, so I went looking for the tv series and was surprised to find both tinker tailor and smileys people in one box set. Loved watching it and finally being able to follow it.Thank you.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Ordered this as a box set with Smiley's People having seen the 2011 film. This is a much better as a series allowing the development of the characters and is less disjointed than the film. Alec Guinness could not be bettered as Smiley. Well worth a punt even though it is a bit dated now.
