Finally available on Region 2 DVD, the critically acclaimed but short lived "My So- Called Life" made stars of Claire Danes and Jared Leto, and documented a moment in time with its soundtrack and styling.
Though unrequited love was the central theme, the series dealt with teenage alcoholism, sex, homophobia, child abuse, violence, censorship and drug use. Music played a prominent role, and the series celebrated artists including The Lemonheads, Juliana Hatfield (who appeared in the Christmas episode), Buffalo Tom and Sonic Youth.
The production of the series was spread over two years, and this eventually contributed to its early demise. Those who pay close attention will notice the change in appearance of the teenage cast. Ending on a cliffhanger, the writers had expected a second season, but the show was cancelled due to mixed ratings, and because so much time had passed that Danes had grown up and wanted to move into films.
Fans can now at least re-live the complete series in its perfection with this DVD box set!
