The very core of Sicily
Hello, First of all, this is a review from a Continent buyer (I live in Spain), discover Zavvi recently, best value compared to Amazon, genuine clever 'merchant' English on line store, Brexit-free (Parcels coming from Guernsey!!!), also bought American series 'Gilmore Girls' and `The West Wing',flawless service.Full marks,at Japanese stores on line level. I have watched this series on National Spanish TV many times, they have aired them on high brow Channel 2 (La 2),.I have read Montalbano's novels in Italian as well. As a born Spanish speaker languages are quite close, but English subtitles are always welcome since I have learnt it for over forty years as many part of the dialogues as It happens with the novels it is spoken in Sicilian dialect (Italy is full of dialects, the Tuscany one was taken as standard Italian after the unification in the XIX century,in fact people from different regions came to understand this standard from the 1960's as Rai (National Italian Television) become widespread. The novels are painstakingly well recreated in the series, the locations in Sicily are gorgeous, XVI century churches and villas and XIX century indoors sets. The XX century police station and Montalbano´s house by the sea are eye-candy too. Series tango like musical opening credits soundtrack is first rate as the rest of soundtrack and direct sound. Opposite to Young Montalbano spin-off series (Il giovane Montalbano), which I eagerly recommend and which features an Italian actress for the role of Genoa's Montalbano girlfriend Livia Burlando and first and last part of the series. The actress that impersonates Montalbano's girlfriend in the middle part is Swedish and is dubbed. It is understandable as they were an Italo-Swedish production due to the success of the first seasons abroad. An Italian reviewer can explain and produce insight about more specifics regarding eating and drinking the seafood, pasta and desert dishes Montalbano enjoys in every episode as well as how to make good coffee in the tiny steel pot he uses for breakfast. Don't miss Montalbano under any circumstance!!! Best regards Arturo
