The exceptional debut feature from director Franco Lolli, Gente de Bien is an emotionally powerful coming-of-age drama that explores with refreshing subtlety the gap between parent and child, and affluence and hardship. Nominated for Semaine de la Critique and Camera d'Or prizes at Cannes in 2014, it won the Horizons Award - Special Mention at San Sebastian International Film Festival, and Best Film at Ghent International Film Festival.
Against the backdrop of modern-day Colombia, newcomer Brayan Santamaría plays ten-year-old Eric who, with his dog Lupe, is sent to live with his father Gabriel in downtown Bogotá. Gabriel, a carpenter, has trouble keeping their heads above water, and struggles to build a relationship with his son; neither fact goes unnoticed by his employer, Maria Isabel. Anxious to help, Maria invites father and son to spend Christmas in the country at her family's luxurious villa; but it seems that her good intentions can only highlight the social divide between them.
