Deutschland 83 is a ground-breaking series from the producers of the international Emmy® award-winning Generation War. It s 1983. The Cold War is heating up. Russian missiles in East Germany are pointed West, American missiles will soon be placed in West Germany, to point East. The very real threat of nuclear conflict looms. Against this perilous political backdrop, a gripping coming-of-age story and a suspenseful, fast-paced thriller, follows Martin Rauch (Jonas Nay), a 24 year old East German native, who is thrust from the world he knows and sent over the wall to the West as an undercover spy for the Stasi. In Deutschland 86 we pick up the narrative three years later. In 1986 East Germany is broke, Perestroika is real, terrorism plagues Europe, the AIDS crisis intensifies and the struggle against apartheid rages on. Martin's aunt, Lenora (Maria Shrader), conscripts him into her plan to drum up hard currency abroad and they set off on an adventure through Africa, Western Europe and finally home to East Germany. But can mafioso-style Capitalism really save Communism in the nick of time?
