Doomsday Clock

The doomsday clock started ticking in 1986 when DC Comics published Watchmen. Created by writer Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons, the comic series is set in an alternate reality that mirrors the state of the world in the ‘80s. However, this version of reality was altered by the emergence of superheroes. As the world awaits a nuclear holocaust due to rising tensions between the US and Russia, these former heroes exit retirement to investigate the murder of the Comedian.

In 2009, a live-action film adaptation was released by Warner Bros. Pictures. Zack Snyder filled the role of director, bringing to life the source material with tons of comic-inspired shots.

Another live-action adaptation was released in 2019: a TV series set after the events of the comic book. The show picks up during the aftermath of the ‘White Night’, an event that saw dozens of police officers targeted and killed in their homes by a racially motivated group called the Seventh Kavalry. To conceal their identities, the Tulsa Police Department begin wearing masks. Predominantly, audiences follow a detective called Angela Abar (otherwise known as Sister Knight), who is investigating the murder of Judd Crawford, the chief of police.

The Watchmen TV series brought together a cast of A-list actors, such as Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Andrew Howard.
