Stuart Gordon's best
Stuart Gordon is adaptation of the pit and the pendulum is probably one of the better films. It is a much more darker and gruesome version of the classic tale, the thing that makes the movie is so interesting is the fact that Stuart Gordon uses camerawork appropriately to make the story go at a rapid pace. You never feel bored by the adaptation and it remains interesting thanks to the excellent main character as the mad Monk. It is truly a tragic tale of a woman who is convinced of being a witch and is to be burned at the stake, her husband is the only one that believes she is innocent and tries To save her. However he must get past the entire Spanish government planning on sacrificing. It is a real emotional roller-coasters of the film. The production value is fantastic with gigantic European castles and Gothic dungeons. You do get to see some pretty horrific torture scenes however stick with it and you are left with probably one of the best adaptations of poes work.
