3One of Lucio Fulci's better works gets a new steelbook release with good extras and a good film worth watching but I would look away come a scene with lots of deadly Tarantulas.

Fulci Favourite
5Fulci's The Beyond is repackaged here in a lovely steelbook tin. The discs are what were released in the original Arrow blu-ray release but have new picture discs that look a lot better. In terms of picture quality The Beyond looks superb. There is grain and some damage but nothing distracting and the film has deep colours and detail not seen previously. It also benefits from having a brightness to it that reveals full picture information without looking off. The DTS mix is also pretty good. At times it seems mainly across the front channels but then we will get into the flooded basement of the hotel and there is a satisfying rumble in the surrounds. When the zombies appear there are gunshots around the room too. This contains one of the best audio commentaries ever - sadly it was recorded with David Warbeck on his deathbed but you would not know from the enthusiastic dialogue he provides with co star Katrina McCall. Hilarious and informative and highly worth a listen. The Beyond is the best place to start with Fulci. Hyper-violent but in a strangely inoffensive way. If you like this then City of the Living Dead is a lesser work but Zombie Flesh-eaters and The House By the Cemetery are just as good and in this reviewer's opinion have more depth.

This Release Goes Above and 'Beyond'
5First of all, Arrow's discs are phenomenal. Great PQ/AQ. Some cool extras. And this exclusive steelbook is one if the nicest ones I've seen. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Also, the Blu-ray Disc itself is region free.

5Fantastic package from Arrow. A re-issue of a brilliant Fulci classic in another excellent steelbook (following a great steelbook release of Zombie Flesh Eaters). If you haven't checked Fulci out yet buy this now before it sells out! Well done to Zavvi on another great value and painless purchase!

Lovely crafted steelbook
4This is the best this film has ever looked. The PQ is really good for such an old low budget film, the remastered audio track is fine too, and the extras are interesting with new interviews of the cast I haven't seen before, With some superb artwork, the steelbook and menus look gorgeous. As a collector edition this is as perfect as it can be. Well done Arrow. The story, not unlike some other Fulci films, is a bit all over the place but the effects and filmography is what really gets you into this zombie film strange mood. Not my favourite Fulci film, I much prefer The City of the Living Dead, this steelbook is however my favourite collector edition of any Arrow title I own.
