Worth twice the price

5

A well put together series that is beautifully re produced and is amazing to the senses, In fact it has inspired my young offspring to be big fans. Timeless and brilliant, cannot wait to watch the bonus extras - a real bonus to money very very well spent.

This is a great collection of films and the whole family really enjoyed watching the original and the new Star Wars films together. I recommend it as a good collection of films for everyone to enjoy.

A box set of two halves

4

It's generally accepted that the three prequel films are the poor relation to their illustrious predecessors. This is probably true, although that opinion is probably heavily influenced by nostalgia given most adults remember the original trilogy from their childhood and perhaps subconsciously negatively judge the prequels as a result. All the films look fantastic whether the restored originals or the CGI-heavy prequels. Some wooden dialogue and convuluted plotting slightly weakens the overall impact, but this package with all six films plus a couple of discs of special features together on Blu Ray provide excellent value for money for those that don't already have these films on DVD. An all-time classic set of films.

Star Wars Saga Blu ray review

4

Having gone out and bought a brand new Blu ray player just for this set of discs, I was really looking forward to getting them and watching them in true HD. First thing I noticed was teh lag in disc load time. Unlike other Blu rays I have, the time between selecting a feature and it loading, seemed to drag on. This is a huge shame, but I persevered. Upon hearing the 20th Century Fox anthem, my heart skipped a beat. And then of course the Star Wars theme blared at me. I was in heaven!!! Watching Episode I felt like watching a brand new film!!! Yes I knew there were tweaks to the films, but even so, they made the film feel fresh and new - quite impressive as this was my least favourite episode of the saga. Visually it was impressive, and the sound was amazing. I found episode II and III also were enhanced by the picture and sound quality. I was a little aprehensive about viewing the original trilogy, after all the films are best part of 30 years old, and i wasn't prepared for them to be as visually stunning as they were. In spite of the technical limitation of the time they were filmed, Lucasfilm have managed to make them look stunning. Some of the featurette's and specal features, did little for me, such as the production sketches. Not because of their quality or added insight to the process of making the film, but I own copies of the various Art of Star Wars books, and as such felt like I had seen most of them before. The interviews and commentaries will take me forever and a day to work through, but the ones I have seen are insightful, and help fill out the whole experience and universe of Star Wars. It the box set expensive for what it is? If you are not a huge Star Wars fan, then yes. If you want to immerse yourself in the whole Star Wars experience, then this is the box set for you, and then the rice makes it worthwhile. Enjoy.

Beautiful, yet flawed

4

What can I say about the Star Wars saga that no one else has said before? This set contains 3 of the best films of their ilk ever made, 2 good but fundamentally flawed films and Attack of the Clones. The transfer to Blu-Ray for the original trilogy is brilliant with vibrant colour and crystal clear picture. The Prequels are just as good as I remember seeing them at a digital cinema screening when they came out. That's the Beautiful bit done, the flawed bit is most likely a personal statement as I feel that Lucas' continual tinkering is starting to rub me up the wrong way. I understand these changes from a commercial standpoint as it means that they can continue to sell you a different product even if it is essentially the same each time its released. But if you thought that the underlying subtext of Vaders turn from the Dark Side in Jedi needed to be made more explicit as it was originally too subtle. Or if the fact that you could never see an Ewok blink irritated you to distraction. Then these additions/alterations shouldn't concern you in any way. Overall though this collection is made an essential buy to any Blu-Ray or Star Wars collector for the extras alone. a lot of effort seems to have been put into the 3 extras disks and it shows. In the end I would have given this 5 stars but for the inclusion of Attack of the Clones.
