In 2001, writer/director Richard Kelly achieved cult status with Donnie Darko, an assured debut feature exploring deep existential questions through the lens of 80s nostalgia. Los Angeles, 2008. As the city stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental chaos, the fates of an eclectic set of characters - including an amnesia-stricken action star (Dwayne Johnson, the Fast & Furious series), an adult film star developing her own reality TV project (Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cruel Intentions) and a police officer whose identity has split in two (Seann William Scott, TV's Lethal Weapon) - intertwine with each other and with the whole of humanity.

Crazy, hectic and weird. In a good way.
Another great release from Arrow. It's great to see the longer film and the commentary helps explain the story and the ideas. The film is parts 4-6 with 1-3 graphic novels. Who would buy and read these at the time?! Anyhow, that didn't work but I wish they'd been added as an extra (especially as the director says they should be on the disc!) as they are rare and expensive now. The effects weren't finished which explains their naffness. Overall the 2k remaster isn't that great. It's such an epic complicated mess, no-one really wants to spend more money fixing it. So, I think this will be the best we ever get.
