Joss Whedon, the Oscar and Emmy-nominated writer/director behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, now applies his trademark wit in this breathtaking action epic.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, now ekes out a living aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew, but when Mal takes on two new passengers - a young doctor and his telepathic sister - he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, and so Serenity finds itself caught between the unstoppable military force of the Alliance, the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers - and another danger lurking at the very heart of the spaceship...

Once Serene Never Forgotten
SERENITY has gone down in history as the best major movie ever evolved from a television series. It was created and penned by Joss Whedon who made Buffy the Vampire Slayer which, coincidentally is a movie that evolved into a television series. No spoilers, but you really need to watch the series first to understand the characters, they are so well rounded and the empathy between them all is exceptional. Eleven years since it's cinematic release and 14 years since the television show's first episode, fans of the show/film are still living in hope of more, more episodes and more movies. By the time you have watched the series and this movie you will be counting yourself amongst those fans. This is the science-fiction, space-opera, soap movie of the century, so grab the nachos and soda, slump onto the sofa, and set yourself for the best visually imaginative adventure ever.

"Sure is a shiny film"
The conclusion of Joss Whedon's cancelled Firefly series done as a big budget sci-fi film. The untimely cancellation of the TV show has been criticised in other tv and films (including many references in The Big Bang Theory!) and this film was eagerly anticipated. The result is a fantastic, exiting and humorous movie which throws you in at the deep end, but I've been told that it still works even if you haven't seen the TV series. Well packaged and quickly delivered by Zavvi. Plenty of extras on the Blu-ray too.

"I aim to misbehave"
Serenity by all accounts was a movie that should never have been able to made, after all how many box office movies have there been made for TV Shows that were cancelled before the end of their first season? But the fact that it was able to be made is a testament to how unbelievably fantastic Firefly and its movie sequel Serenity is and the devotion it spawns within its fans. Firefly and Serenity are both excellent examples of Sci-Fi at its finest with its own unique style of the Wild West frontier meets space. Following the exploits of an excellent cast of characters led by the swash buckling Captain Reynolds (who I think gives Han Solo a run for his money) and his heroic and occasionally anti heroic crew as they fly from planet to planet trying to find any honest and un-honest work they can in a solar system under the ever intensifying grip of the tyrannical regime of the alliance. Firefly and Serenity are both without a doubt some of the best examples of Sci-Fi ever made for both the large and small screen and if you have not yet experienced it I implore you to give it a go, the only thing you'll be disappointed in is the fact that there isn’t more of it to watch.
