After the banning of their original 1977 BBC TV version, director Alan Clarke (The Firm) and writer Phil Minton (Funny Farm) set out to remake their drama for the big screen to ensure that their vision got the audience it deserved. The resulting film, released here in a special Blu-ray edition to mark its 40th anniversary, was an even more vitriolic portrait of a corrupt and violent institution which stunned cinema audiences and caused outrage.
Uncompromising in its depiction of everyday violence, retribution, suicide and sexual assault, Scum remains a cornerstone of the British realist cinema movement, and a savage and still shocking indictment of institutionalised violence and abuse.

Scum
After watching this, you can see why the BBC banned the original TV version. A brutal film about a Borstal School in Britain in the 70s. The film itself acts as a commentary for how these schools made no or little attempt at the rehabilitation of the inmates.

Don't Go Near The Glasshouse
I don't bandy words like "masterpiece" very often but this film is undoubtedly one. Superb acting from everyone, hair-raising brutality, and soul-wrenching establishment hypocrisy just as I remember it. The limited-edition is a treasure to have, with a detailed booklet, numbered slipcase, etc. Incredible pricing from Zavvi as usual, so if you want a genuine masterpiece for your collection, what are you waiting for?

Zavvi and their Collectors Editions.... Once again Zavvi are leading the way bringing back the old classics and not just bringing them back in Blu ray with Great Sound and great picture... Noooo ... they now have theses awesome collectors editions in association with INDICATOR. This has Loads of extras including Interviews and a lovely Booklet and awesome Double sided poster...this awesome collectors edition is limited to only 8000 copies... This is a must for the Collector out there and a fan of the Movie ... i am loving these collectors Edition from Indicator & Zavvi... Keep up the Awesome work.. Tiger

Good film
This film reminds me of my youth, having spent time in a detention centre in my teenage years, quite true to reality, borstal/ detention centres were tough places

Definitive
If like me you have long admired Scum this surely will be the the definitive edition ! This film has never looked better and would not really benefit from any future upgrade beyond this edition so for me this is it. The packaging of this special edition is simply beautiful and I would compare it to my personal favourite Apocalypse Now blur-ray edition. its numbered and the slip case and booklet are just sensational
