THERE'S A NEW REASON TO BE AFRAID OF THE DARK.
A sci-fi/horror sleeper hit that birthed a franchise and launched the career of a new action movie icon, Pitch Black holds its own today as a nerve-shredding creature-feature in which the monsters outside finally meet their match against a monster within.
When an intergalactic transport ship crashes on a remote desert planet with no sign of help on the horizon, the survivors, led by Fry (Radha Mitchell), band together to find a way back home. Among the passengers is Riddick (Vin Diesel), a convicted murderer being transported by marshal Johns (Cole Hauser) - and now freed of his chains and on the loose. But as a solar eclipse plunges the planet into total darkness, a threat even worse than Riddick reveals itself, and the last humans standing may have to form an uneasy truce with the cunning fugitive (whose eyes have been surgically altered to see in the dark) to last the long night.
Boasting crackerjack direction and a whip-smart script by David Twohy, as well as a star-making performance by Diesel, Riddick's first outing is freshly unleashed in an illuminating, brand new 4K restoration, with hours of exclusive bonus content.

Welcome to 4k Arrow
Arrow video did a great job with this transfer. The film has never looked better. The 4k really adds depth to the dark scenes in particular. Well worth the upgrade if you're a fan of the film. A good helping of special features too, as always with Arrow.

A great but not quite perfect picture
A film nearly 20 years old shouldn’t look this good but it does. The outside scenes early on are brilliantly bright, sharp and shining with HDR goodness. Clothes textures, skin textures are amazing. Then the final third kicks in with some great dark scenes, but ruined by heavy amount of natural film grain which unfortunately does then age this film. A film showing so many promises early on to be disappointing with not the best black levels and very heavy film grain which I hate. It is still a definite up tick on the original Blu-ray and DVD but still disappointed me a little as other Arrow releases have been so much better.

Thank you arrow
Only just received my 4k of this and played it straight away, I loved this film before and love it even more now thanks to this beautiful 4k transfer, once again arrow have done a fantastic job with this, the picture is stunning, the sound great and the choice between directors cut and theatrical cut is a nice touch to, this 4k is a definite buy and a zero disappointment, thank you arrow you never let the fans down, one for sci-fi fans and 4k collectors for sure and a perfect way to start a 4k collection if you just started

My opinion of this 4K movie
Pitch Black looks stunning with 4K and Dolby Vision. It's a great upgrade from BD. Arrow Video has made a great job with the transfer. I'd have love if they had upmixed the sound to DTS-X or Dolby Atmos, but it still sounnd great. The colors are beautiful and Dolby Vision do the job amazingly. Black and white colors are great and the movie looks especially beautiful in my LG OLED 4K TV. Highly recommendable to buy.

Best version for the 4K
Having always been a fan of this movie, and having owned previous versions, I was curious how it would come out on the 4K format. The result is a very good picture. Well defined and although in some really dark scenes the natural film grain is very apparent, overall it is a big improvement on the blu ray. Much more of the picture is visible on this version in the darker scenes and the clarity surpasses that of the blu ray version also. Colours are vibrant (obviously the film is awash with an orange tint to replicate the world they are in) but the 4K HDR does what it should. The film hasn’t lost any of its character and it was a pleasant experience to rewatch it. I have given it four stars simply because it isn’t a steel book which I collect, and will probably be released later making me wish I’d waited. Highly recommended though.

Impressive 4K transfer
Visuals are a big upgrade. Comes loaded with extras and a nice option to choose between either the theatrical or directors cut (both in 4K). Slightly disappointing it doesn’t come with a second blu ray disc considering the price.

Finally....!!!!!
This film is outstanding, it's taken ages for us to get both versions fully restored and in a package that befits the film itself. The picture is fantastic, it sounds amazing and the extras are extremely comprehensive. A great package at a great price with brilliant service from Zavvi....👍

Great film
Great film. Impressive visuals and audio for the 4k disc. Disappointing that Arrow cancelled the slip cover for this 4K release

Great first effort from Arrow
Arrow announce their presence into the 4k world with style. A cult classic movie looks better than ever with a very impressive native 4k transfer - colours really pop in a film which is so reliant on extreme colour schemes. With Dolby Vision included Arrow have done really well. Sound is DTS Master Audio 5.1 and while not an Atmos, it's still a very good audio effort. Extras are in abundance, which is an area Arrow have always been recognised for. Highly recommended.
