Powerful Portrait of the American Prometheus

"Oppenheimer" begins in text by reminding us of the legend of Prometheus, who was punished by the gods for giving fire to mortal men. As the film is based on the book "American Prometheus", there is a clear comparison made between the legend and the man Robert Oppenheimer. Certainly, Oppenheimer's technological triumph is met with personal and professional disaster. The film suggests that, on some level, he desired the calamities that befell him after delivering the bomb. The film "Oppenheimer" deals with the personal as well as the wider implications of such advances in science. Without explicitly stating the lessons we must learn, the film leaves you with much to think about. The presentation of the film and the extras that support the movie are excellent. Who would have thought that watching a bunch of scientists, left-wing intellectuals, military offices, and politicians discussing matters of state and morality be so fascinating?
