Thrillers Deconstructed
What is interesting for me is the way No Country For Old Men mirrors many other films in many ways, yet deconstructs them. The film parallels the storyline of a number of other films, yet distinguishes itself by following the likely actual story arc with much more 'natural' consequences rather than the fictional arc one is programmed to expect. Thus cold water is thrown onto the viewer's face at several points when the expected does not occur, but one can only conclude that it is what should have happened. It's not my favourite Coen film by a long way (there's a lot of competition), but it's a good film and well worth watching.
