Long Kiss Goodnight
Samantha Caine (Geena Davis), a suburban school teacher, suffers from amnesia. When her mysterious past begins to haunt her idyllic life, she sets out on a desperate search to discover her true identity.
Aided by Mitch Hennessey (Samuel L. Jackson), a dead-beat private detective, she follows a trail of clues into the middle of a terrorist conspiracy in the US Intelligence community. Repressed from her memory is her former life as Charly Baltimore, a highly trained secret agent and killer.
But Charly is slowly re-emerging, which spells trouble for the terrorists, and anybody else who gets in her way.
The Assassin
The second entry in the action-packed Yakuza Cop series, veteran director Yukio Noda's The Assassin is a brilliant and irreverent serio-comic action showcase for legendary martial arts hero and Tarantino favourite Sonny Chiba (The Street Fighter).
An undercover cop and respected karate expert, Chiba's Hayata is battling to bring to justice the members of two gun-happy Japanese gangs. Posing as a criminal, Hayata is hired as a hitman and uses his disguise to bring both sets of criminals to justice. But a deadly fate awaits should either gang discover his identity.
Building to an explosive, fist frenzied finale, The Assassin - which features a cameo by aptly named professional wrestler Giant Baba - was partly responsible for bringing Chiba to a wider audience. Featuring Chiba tripping on marijuana and sporting outrageous pimp threads, this is a riotous and kick-ass piece of infectious entertainment.
