Frankenweenie on Blu-ray in 3D.

The release of Frankenweenie on Blu-ray is one of the very few 3D releases in black and white (with shades of grey as well) and it is a triumph. The picture quality is up there with the best BD 3D releases and the lossless DTS surround sound is avaliable up to 7.1. The film itself has all the hallmarks of being a Tim Burton film, in other words slightly quirky, all-in-all it is very enjoyable. The basic storyline is when a boy re-animates his dog (in a Frankenstein way) which met an early demise and all that ensues after re-animation. First class stop motion completes a great release even in 2D, it's recommended.

Another excellent animation from Tim Burton

I loved Frankenweenie 3D. Originally, Tim Burton made a short version of this story using live action. This version expands that short movie and adds more to the story. The animation style used in Burton's Corpse Bride has been used here to great effect, this time in 3D. There's loads of old black and white horror movie references, which add to the fun for us grown-ups, but don't make it horrific for children. The quality of the video and sound are excellent and the 3D isn't overdone.
