Great Sci-fi
4Farscape has to be one of the best Scifi TV shows of the last couple of decades. Grossly underrated and overlooked by many during the Stargate era. One of the few shows that attempted to make aliens (or at least some of them) a little bit alien in both look, nature and behavior. The HD version is OK but not great and I don't see any real benefits over the DVD version so I wouldn't bother to get this is you have the DVD. Also a pity that "The Peacekeeper Wars" mini-series is not included in the box-set.

5Of course, Farscape - The Definitive Collection is for fans only, but the picture quality is nice and it's worth buying!

Farscape - The Definitive Collection - Series 1-4
5I've only watched a couple of episodes so far, but this box set is stunning! Farscape is a wonderfully visual show, especially in the later seasons as the budget was increased allowing the production values to meet the creators' ambitions - seeing that all reproduced in stunning HD is fabulous. The packaging is also excellent. I previously owned the DVDs which had each season in 5 parts of 2 discs, so a single season was as wide as 10 dics! This compact and attractive set looks great and takes up much less space on my shelves. Really pleased to see subtitles are available throughout as well, not all my DVDs had them. Basically, this is a total no-brainer for any Scaper.

Farscape
5Quite simply Farscape was one or the best TV series ever to grace our TV screens. It's a story of an astronaught whilst trying to prove his thesis creates a worm hole which he gets sucked into. When he gets thrown out at the end of it he is in the middle of a battle in another Galaxy, another ship collides with his and explodes, he is later accused of killing the pilot. He is taken onboard another ship with a tractor beam where he encounters 3 escaped prisoners. Later he finds himself captured with the prisoners, aligned with the prisoners they manage to escape on the living ship called a leviathan which starbursts across galaxies. They are pursued by their former captives across the universe, they encounter all manner of alien life forms many of which share human characteristics particularly our greed. I was going to buy this when it was first released, but I was put off by stories about the master being re created from TV tapes. I have watched every episode and the picture quality is excellent throughout, deep blacks, rich vibrant colors with plenty of fine detail, even in the darkest corners. It certainly holds up well with any movie of the same era, eg its definitely better than my copy of 12 monkeys on blu ray. It also lacks any of the fuzz present on the DVD particularly with patterned backgrounds and textured surfaces like brickwork. This is easier on the eye, if like me you like to watch your TV box sets one episode after another. According to the back of the box audio is Dolby Digital. However the read out on both my amp and players menu says it's DTS 5.1, my amp doesnt have HD resolution playback it may well even be DTS HD MA audio but I Can't confirm this. Anyway, dialogue is clear with good use made of effects channels. Should you buy this box set? If you were a fan of Farscape, I would definitely answer yes to this, it has better picture and sound than the DVD. I'm glad I bought mine. Picture 1080P24 Audio DTS 5.1 Aspect ratio Season 1:3 IS 4:3 Season 16::9 Extras Cast & crew interviews, deleted scenes and commentaries on some episodes.

The BEST Sci-Fi show nobody seems to know about..
5I remember this airing in the usual BBC2 graveyard slot of 6pm-ish. As a result I missed it more often than saw it and ended up not bothering. Like Firefly, it's grittier sci-fi, with a good dose of humour and some great acting. This box set encompasses the 88 episodes of the 4 series; because of legal issues, series 5 (aka Peace-Keeper Wars) is available separately. I eventually came back to this series in 2011 after seeing a couple of episodes on Italian TV, and I am glad I did. This is without doubt my favourite sci-fi TV show, it really is that good, better in my opinion, than all the Star Treks, Firefly, Babylon 5 etc. The Blu-ray was mastered from the original video tapes (so not a film master), but it still looks pretty sharp. The early episodes are in 4:3 picture format but that's the way they were made. The price on Zavvi is also great, so if you love sci-fi then take a chance on Farscape. For fans of Stargate SG1, you also get to see the great on-screen chemistry of Ben Browder & the wonderful Claudia Black. Don't be scared of the puppets either! Brilliant dialogue, brilliant story line, and manages to take some age old sci-fi concepts and give them a brilliant spin. Unlike a lot of sci-fi, easily accessible for people of any gender it's a kind of weird love story! You've got to buy it!
