A pleasant surprise

The first part of this review is about the delivery and service from Zavvi. The second party is about the film itself. This item was delivered to me along with several other items. It was perfectly packaged, arrived promptly and I have absolutely no issues with the ordering or delivery processes, or the condition of the product at all: I wasn’t familiar with this film at all and it was interesting to see a film from Irvin Kershner that is actually quite well-paced and surprising. It’s in the vein of those wonderful, easy-watching thrillers that followed in the late 1980s up to the mid-to-late 1990s, like Black Widow, Basic Instinct, Final Analysis and What Lies Beneath (minus any ghosts, of course). It’s very slick and has aged quite well for a film from 1978. I wouldn’t automatically have cast Faye Dunaway and Tommy Lee Jones in the leads in a film together, but it strangely seems to work. The film involves a lot of misdirection, intrigue and is violent, but not excessively so. True, on reflection, there are parts of it that don’t make much sense on reflection, although you can say that about a lot of enjoyable thrillers: as long as you’re carried along by it whilst watching it and only start to question its feasibility afterwards, then you’ve been watching a good film!
