Ryan Reynolds stars in the first-ever live-action Pokemon adventure as Pikachu, the iconic face of the global Pokemon phenomenon-one of the world's most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and the most successful media franchise of all time. The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim (Justice Smith) to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokemon partner, Detective Pikachu (Ryan Reynolds): a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City-a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokemon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world-they encounter a diverse cast of Pokemon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokemon universe.

Detective Pikachu 4K Steelbook
Very nice steelbook and the 4K transfer nicely reflects the cinema experience. Bunch of good extra content, too. A: 7; V:7.

Great Art Work - Not Very Vibrant
This movie is a great 4K watch, with lots of colour, neon lights and vibrant animated Pokemon. I bought this steel book because I was a fan of the artwork on both sides. Overall I am happy with it but I thought the colours could pop more. They are actually quite dim compared with the artwork in the product photo. The steelbook also comes with a pokemon card which is a nice touch. Service from Zavvi was great too.

Pikachu I choose you!! For real!
Wow. This surpassed all my expectations, which I confess were fairly low. Pokemon is a massive franchise and the idea of a lice action movie being any good whatsoever was, in my mind, a pipe dream. Pokemon movies are no new thing; extensions of the tv show which has created its own unique world within. How was this one - with none of the cartoon characters making an appearance- going to fit in with that? Do you make it a completely brand new approach? No. You simply create a city, drop a film noire homage-plot involving Pokemon and the usual crazed British antagonist, and the two most famous, accessible Pokémon in that world. Pikachu, voiced by Ryan Reynolds (a selling point, but it works so well) and MewTwo, an absolutely terrifying artificial life form with the mental capability of ...well there’s no comparison. The FX are second to none. The Pokemon are flawless; Pikachu is all furry and your heart melts everytime he furrows that little brow. Like all good cartoons this isn’t just for kids. There’s enough throwaway “Ryan Reynolds-isms” to keep the adults happy. And lots of explosions. And Scotland. Wow, CG not required that background is gorgeous. Put on your little detective hat and get a cup of coffee and join your favourite little Pokémon in this wild ride, ignore the various plot holes and “that makes no sense” moments. Who cares! Oh and the steelbook is lovely and shiny. Bonus.

Detective Pikachu Steelbook
Beautifully designed Steelbook. The image is perfect, but it doesn’t pop the way it should in person. Perhaps a glossy finish would have made the difference.
