Awesome!
If you, like me, are a fan of this film (and have it on VHS and DVD) you are in for a real treat; the transfer is very, very good indeed. it's like seeing an old friend come home all scrubbed up and looking healthy! If you have never seen this film before but like taut, well scripted films (and like Carpenter and Tarantino), then you must see this film. This is the best transfer the UK has had and I doubt there will ever be a better one. Bearing in mind this is a low budget mid-seventies indie flick the video quality is very good. Some of the early scenes may seem a little washed out but the night scenes are managed very well; likewise some of the interiors are a little soft but this was the way the film was shot rather than the transfer. Audio is great; if you have the means whack up the bass for the great, pulsating soundtrack and the 'pfft!' of silenced gunshots. This will be at the expense of some of the dialogue early in the film however; the recording on the dialogue on the bus, for example, seems rather low though this does improve when the action moves to the interior of the police station. The extras are very good and this appears to be a transfer of the Shout! Factory USA blu ray from a few years back; nowt wrong with that. This UK version comes with an album length CD of the cult soundtrack and a few collectors cards. The CD is fantastic and definitely worth getting the limited edition for. Altogether an excellent edition. Zavvi delivered very quickly and at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended!
