Cracking Akira

This is a great release and looks superb on 4k disc , the hdr makes a real difference and the colours really pop on this , I bought the limited edition with slipcover and it looks very smart on the shelf, the sound is also superb highly recommended

HDR fixed?

Did they fix the HDR on this release, or do you still need to send away for a working HDR disc?

AKIRA

Nicely presented box and extras, but a little over priced for what is essentially an old film. The movie itself looks great in 4K, with HDR, I wondered what improvements could be seen in older animations like these but I can report the images are bright and colourful with some impactful highlights. Sound effects are well placed but speech is poorly lip-synced in English. I've heard so much about this anime classic but never seen it up until now. It does have a great story, a proper story just like a normal movie. I can see why it has gained cult status. I certainly enjoyed watching it, sometimes I can get bored with animations but this one keeps you hooked and plays out like an acted movie.

AKIRA 4K Limited Edition

Firstly check the version that you’ve received as the publisher recently replaced the disc as it was missing the HDR graded version. If your copy isn’t labelled HDR the publisher will send you the new version. What can I say about AKIRA? It’s mine and no doubt many others, favourite anime and this new set is lovely! The 4K HDR version looks excellent, the slipcase artwork and included booklet are beautiful. Highly recommended!

Perfection

Finally here and affordable (following a discount) is the daddy of all anime, looking and sounding better than ever. Firstly the packaging is excellent. It's sleek and cool and more understated than I anticipated. The additional booklet makes for fascinating reading and the extra features are interesting and well produced but the film is the true star and in 4K it just EXPLODES! Having seen it first on VHS, then DVD, then Blu it really is the icing on the cake to own it on what may be it's final iteration and in all it's glory. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Japanese audio

Just wanted to say that Japanese audio is included on the 4k disc, even though the language information on the back doesn't list it.

Just like the Cinema experience!

I watched the remaster in IMAX at Cineworld before they closed for the second time. This movie is phenomenal in 4k. There are only a few anime movies out there that are in 4k (Weathering With You, Your Name (Hong Kong version,) Ghost in the Shell and the upcoming Millennial Actress. This experience is one you cannot miss. Sure getting Funimation to swap the 4K disk for one with HDR is a bit of a pain, but for an unparalleled experience, pick it up. The animation is clean, and upscales very well for such an old film. The colours were bright and really pop, with all the neon lights, explosions, and the Dolby audio surrounds you in a sense of realism that has to be heard to be believed.

Akira

The classic anime, now in 4K HDR! And it looks stunning! And it comes with a book with some essays so its not only the film itself.
