Not Frankenheimers best, far from his worst

Based on an Elmore Leonard novel, this tale of a cheating husband who uses his brain to turn the tables on his blackmailers is well put together. Scheider is solid as usual and Ann-Margret looks gorgeous but its the kind of film you will have seen many times before. Great performances by everyone though and some great eye candy.

Underrated 80s neo-noir crime film

Entirely surprised by how much I enjoyed this neo-noir crime film as I chose to watch it on a complete whim and only found out about it due to an Arrow Video sale and have been seeking Roy Scheider films for a while now that I had never heard of so I decided to give it a shot, which I am glad I did. Not seen many films by John Frankenheimer but he shows that with a good director like himself even a Cannon Group film can make for an engrossing and enjoyable film. The cast is really good, it is well shot, superbly paced, doesn't rely on action but instead uses the seedy side of L.A. to its full advantage giving it an atmosphere unlike lesser films in its genre, has a decent score, is engrossing with its plot and seeing Scheider playing an imperfect character is a rare treat.
