Welcome To Derry, a prequel series to Stephen King's beloved horror epic IT, has been officially given the green light at HBO Max, Deadline reports.
Better yet, it's being co-developed by Andy Muschietti (alongside his sister, producer Barbra Muschietti), who directed the two IT films that were released to box office success in 2017 and 2019.
The series has already been given the seal of approval by King himself, who said: "I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all around!"
In a statement, the Muschietti siblings said: "As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s IT until the thick paperback fell to pieces.
"IT is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our IT movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humour, humanity, and horror."
No release date or casting for the project has been announced. Before then, Muschietti's latest feature The Flash will arrive in UK cinemas on Friday 16th June.
