It's been one whole year since the release of Horizon Zero Dawn and a lot has happened for the game in the time since it's release. The studio behind Horizon, Guerilla Games, saw unprecedented success with this release, selling over 7.6 million copies worldwide. Since it's release we've sunk hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the game (well at least I have) and it's no secret this game deserves the praise it recieves.
Horizon Zero Dawn: One Year On
Launched exclusively on PS4, the game recieved critical acclaim from all angles, going on to win multiple awards. These awards include:
- IGN's Best Playstation 4 Game 2017
- Writers Guild Award 2017: Best Video Game Writing
- GOTY 2017 Nominee
- Best Game Ever in the History of Games: Me
Herman Hulst, co-founder and managing director for Guerilla Games went on to say of Horizon:
"We had huge ambition for Horizon Zero Dawn and as we approached the launch we knew people were excited, but to see sales of this volume is truly mind blowing. Since launch, millions of players have joined Aloy on a quest to discover the secrets of the old ones. We hope they enjoy playing Horizon Zero Dawn as much as we enjoyed making it."
The Future of Horizon: Zero Dawn
Since it's release, we've been treated to the DLC - The Frozen Wilds - allowing players to extend Aloy's adventure beyond the current map into the territory of Ban-Ur and meet the mysterious Banuk tribe. This adds a whole extra world on to the already dense world we know and love. Expect plenty more unique collectible items and new, mysterious machines!
In line with the one year anniversary, Guerilla Games have also announced some little treats that players will be able to enjoy for free. You can read more about these here.
We can only hope the team are hard at work on a sequel that this game truly deserves!
