Reeves, best known for his work on War For The Planet Of The Apes and Cloverfield, made the announcement on Twitter last night (27th January).
Sharing a photo of a clapperboard with the film's title on it, Reeves accompanied the image with the hashtags '#DayOne' and '#TheBatman'.
He also tagged the movie's director of photography in the tweet, Greig Fraser.
Taking a closer look at the photo, the clapperboard is sat in a rather expensive looking chair, so we can guess the scene they were shooting takes place at none other than Wayne Manor.
And if you really zoom in on the film's logo, within the letter 'A' there appears to be the silhouette of villain The Penguin, while a backwards 'R' for Riddler seems to be hiding in the letter 'H'.
Now, of course we may be reading too much into a simple logo, but we also wouldn't be surprised if there were teasers concealed within the image.
Reeves has assembled quite the cast for his new take on the dark knight, with Robert Pattinson, who recently wowed us in Good Time and The Lighthouse, taking on the titular role.
Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies) is set to play Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman, while Andy Serkis will appear as butler Alfred Pennyworth.
And in the villain corner, we have Paul Dano as The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and perhaps the most exciting casting of all, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. The Penguin.
Meanwhile Westworld's Jeffrey Wright will appear as Commissioner Gordon, with Peter Sarsgaard, who starred in Green Lantern, taking on a currently unknown role.
While much of Reeves' film remains under wraps, we can make a good guess Sarsgaard will be playing Harvey Dent, Two-Face, joining the gang of villains taking on Pattinson's caped crusader.
The Batman is scheduled for release on 25th June 2021.For all things pop culture and the latest news, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and TikTok.
