‘Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck’. We all know the popular rhyme, but how many of you believe in it?
Director Peggy Holmes and writer Kiel Murray didn’t until they made Luck, a new animated adventure hitting Apple TV+ this August. Now both of them always ensure they pick those pennies up.
The duo also hope that luck is on their side when the film releases, especially since it is the debut feature from Skydance Animation, a new studio hoping to make a big entrance.
Holmes admits she is aware that this leaves Luck with a significant weight on its shoulders, but the excitement of building something new left this pressure at the back of her mind.
She told The Lowdown: “What I’m loving about being at Skydance is that we are creating a studio from the ground up – every single day we are building, learning, and navigating new challenges.
The pressure actually comes from the fact we all want to make something great that will live in people’s hearts forever. We want to tell stories with a deep emotional core and take you to worlds you have never seen before, like the Land Of Luck.”
We embark on an adventure to that land with Sam, the unluckiest person in the world who stumbles across this magical world and sets out on a quest to bring some good luck home for her friend.
For the latest issue of our free digital magazine The Lowdown, Holmes and Murray discuss creating the extraordinary world of Luck.
