A great homage to the original
Spielberg's rendition of War of the Worlds does the original literature from H.G. Wells justice and pays careful attention to the elements that made it a hit piece. I watched this film when it first came out in 2005 as a young teenager and it was a gateway piece to other sci-fi horror films that I would not have pursued if not for this film. I will never forget the moment the tripod comes out from the ground and sounds its horn. Iconic! I was imagining myself in with the crowd and waiting with bated breath to find out if this gigantic machine was friend or foe. This film is very a well written and shot piece of art that is very formative for me. It is an updated version of the 1953 film that is more suitable for a modern audience. It does sound a bit funny saying this given it came out 20 years ago as of writing this! The physical product came quickly and I appreciate having both the blu-ray and 4k discs. I am ready to watch in 4k when I eventually get a 4k TV. They discs have interesting bonus features i found myself bring sucked into after watching the film.

A Joy to watch in 4K
This is a fantastic upgrade to 4K HDR that only differs in the beginning due to Steven Spielberg's filming choice of bright camera levels in the opening scene but when the 3 main characters travel at night and during close ups of Tom Cruise's character the benefits of the 4K upgrade really shines alongside superior sound that helps to make voices clearer and reduce background noises for a more life life and authentic atmosphere. Although the film has it's problems such as a simplified ending that didn't match the intelligent movie that had taken place during the 2 hour movie it delivered on the characters journey which is what this movie is really about which is a family drama, the father wanting love from his son, the son wanting to feel that his father cares about him and the dauther who needs to confront her fears. In conclusion I have given this movie a 5 star rating because it is highly rewatchable and I have watched it 100's of times at this point but the 4K upgrade makes it worth a watch as these improvements make them feel cinematic and more true to the director's true vision.

Never looked better
This superlative transfer of what is one Spielberg’s best films of the last 25 years is the best you will ever see, don’t even hesitate in ordering this, you will not regret it!

Masterful
Great deal on a great product. A sweet transfer to ultra HD makes for an elevated experience of one of Spielberg's most underrated gems and one of my favourite alien invasion movies, truly haunting and riveting viewing.
