In 1970, young first-time director Dario Argento (Deep Red, Suspiria) made his indelible mark on Italian cinema with The Bird with the Crystal Plumage - a film which redefined the 'giallo' genre of murder-mystery thrillers and catapulted him to international stardom.
Sam Dalmas (Tony Musante, We Own the Night), an American writer living in Rome, inadvertently witnesses a brutal attack on a woman (Eva Renzi, Funeral in Berlin) in a modern art gallery. Powerless to help, he grows increasingly obsessed with the incident. Convinced that something he saw that night holds the key to identifying the maniac terrorizing Rome, he launches his own investigation parallel to that of the police, heedless of the danger to both himself and his girlfriend Giulia (Suzy Kendall, Spasmo)...

fine transfer
this is a fine 4k transfer of a classic movie..!

Simply Wow
The sheer work that has gone into lovingly restore this film is exceptional. The film itself is enjoyable in any format, but this transfer is for me why 4K discs exist. From the specially commissioned artwork to the original Italian cover screams quality, designed to show a true appreciation of the film. This is shown in the booklet, poster art & cards, and backed up by the extras delving into the film itself. I also purchased, Cat O’ Nine Tails, Deep Red and I will be getting Phenomena (Creepers) when it is released. I can only recommend these releases as they present films in a similar fashion as I feel about the medium. It is also a testament to the love that Arrow has for physical media.

Bird caught in 4K!
Dario Argento’s directorial debut is a dazzling example of the Italian “giallo” detective thriller, but Arrow’s release this tale of murder and intrigue shines more brightly than ever in this brand-new 4K presentation. Packed with special features and including a softcover book with essays on the film and it’s director, this release really is the last word on a film that retains the capacity to thrill and mesmerise half a century after it was released.
