Drive The Inspiration for Rush Hour

Whilst it won't win awards or is up there with the classic actions from Schwarzenegger, Stallone & Co. Drive is a fun Mish mash of Science Fiction RoboCop meets Action Lethal Weapon hybrid. It has some insane Martial arts action from lead Mark Dascascos, who it is a shame he never got to be a bigger star. The lead villian Madison is a crazy over the top Character, who actually has to go out of his way not to kill our hero, due to the bio of implant in his stomach. Kardeem Hardison is the black comic relief who Dascascos hooks up with. It is very clear from the outset that this film was influential on Rush Hour. Hardison even admits as much following a fan conversation with Brett Ratner who told him that without Drive there would be no Rush Hour. The extras are quite substantial with this UK version only having 2 extras not on the US MVD Rewind version released year and that is an extra Featurette Highway To Nowhere Jason Tobin and Drive and the Original Theatrical version of Drive which runs at 100 minutes, 18 minutes less than the Directors Cut. A very fun enjoyable Popcorn movie.

88 Films speeds on to 4K

Or is that rather drives... Had never seen this movie before and took a chance on a blind buy, and to support 88s first 4K release. The movie itself is a good enough action movie and I was rather surprised at its origin as a DTV product as many scenes definitely punches above its weight. And it is one of the better western releases emulating the Hong Kong action scene (with a weird sci-fi gimmick), all the way to the strange comedic undertones and buddy-cop esthetic. The disc itself is of high quality, with good picture quality and with a pretty robust soundtrack. Well worth a watch if you are into the classic Van Damme action of the era and its ilk.

Classic '90s b-action movie

Pre-ordered this great low budget action film from the '90s as I hadn't seen it in ages, and what a film it is! Action scenes are great, comedy is top notch and everything is so over the top, that you'll smile for the whole duration of the film. Marc Dacascos is one of the finest martial artists of all time. The stunts and fight choreography are such a pleasure to the eye, but you can see the budget was low, so some scenes look dated, they looked dated even back in the '90s. Great film nevertheless, and if you enjoy martial arts films, action comedies and b-movies, you're in for a treat! Great packacking and the film looks great. Dolby Atmos is not the best around in this one in general, but it's the best audio track you'll ever get for this film. Overall a very fine release from 88FILMS. Fast delivery, although the release was post-poned couple of times, but it's not Zavvi's fault. Very well packaged, like always. Comes with a cool poster. Movie: 4/5 (for a low budget) Picture: 4 and a half/5 Audio: 4/5 Extras: 4 and a half/5 Release and package: 4/5
