An Epic Fantasy Adventure

Created by author J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord Of The Rings is a best-selling trilogy of fantasy novels. It was written between the years 1937 and 1949, following in the footsteps of The Hobbit (1937).

Due to the popularity of the books, three epic fantasy-adventure films were made, beginning with 2001’s The Fellowship Of The Ring. Directed by Peter Jackson and produced by Barrie M. Osborne, the film was distributed by New Line Cinema.

The story follows a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who inherits the One Ring from Bilbo Baggins on his 111th birthday. Learning the true power of the Ring, Frodo is warned by Gandalf The Grey (Ian McKellen) to leave the Shire. Accompanied by his friend Samwise ‘Sam’ Gamgee and the Fellowship, he embarks on a quest to destroy the Ring.

The Two Towers (2002) was directed by Peter Jackson, based on the second volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's series. The plot follows Frodo and Sam as they continue their journey towards Mordor, now joined by Gollum, the Ring’s former owner.

The finale of the trilogy, The Return Of The King (2003), ups the stakes as the remaining members of the Fellowship gather an army in an attempt to survive the attack of Sauron and his legions. Meanwhile, Frodo, Sam, and Gollum move ever closer to Mount Doom.
