The secrets of Life and Undeath in the most famous Universal Monster ever
'Dracula' (1931) may have been a success, but it was 'Frankenstein' (1931) that made Boris Karloff into a star and made horror films into a genre. This set of all the original Universal films Frankenstein Monster series is a commentary on the whole of Universal's 30's and 40's horror films. 'Frankenstein' and 'Bride of Frankenstein' (1935) are the two fairy tale classics directed by James Whale that bookend the initial wave of 1930's horror films. 'Son of Frankenstein' (1939) marks Universal returning to horror after a hiatus. 'Ghost of Frankenstein' (1942), 'Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man' (1943), 'House of Frankenstein' (1944) and 'House of Dracula' (1945) show a gradual dependence on monster team ups. Finally 'Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein' (1948) is the studio saying goodbye to it's traditional monsters. 'Frankenstein', 'Bride of Frankenstein' and 'Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein' have full documentaries on their making and commentaries by film historians with trailers for all films. All of the films are worth watching regardless. This is a great value set for all fans of classical Hollywood films and Universal Monsters. Definitely worthy of being on any film fan's shelf.
