The internet's favourite murder robot is about to make her cinematic debut, but it seems like plans are already underway for a sequel.

It was reported by the New York Times in November that Universal Pictures were already looking at making a second M3GAN film based on the viral success of the first trailer - over the past few days, more details have started to trickle in.

In a recent interview with Zavvi, star Allison Williams told us that viewers will have to take a closer look when the movie arrives in cinemas, as the filmmakers have carefully left a trail of clues that hint towards how M3GAN could return.

She said: "There are some breadcrumbs at the end of the movie that indicate the world could continue, but audiences will have to watch M3GAN first and see if I survive to know if I’ll be a part of that!

"When you’re in the horror genre, it’s so heightened, you have many opportunities to keep the party going. I remember when making Get Out, I kept saying to Jordan [Peele] ‘is it possible that she’s only ambiguously dead?’

"He knew exactly what I was trying to do there – but in this case, a sequel is something we dream of."

Universal Pictures

Williams isn't the only person involved with the film teasing a sequel, with producer James Wan recently revealing that he's got ideas for a full "cinematic universe" spun off from the movie.

He told Collider: “What I will say is that with any of my movies, whether it's The Conjuring or Saw, Malignant or M3GAN, we like to think of a bigger world.

"For me, it's about creating the world, knowing who the characters are, where the story could potentially go, building this bigger world, and then going into that saying, ‘okay, I'm telling this particular story, but I know other stuff that's going on.’

Universal Pictures

"So if we're fortunate enough to have sequels, then we have an idea of where we want to go.”

The full interview with Allison Williams and director Gerard Johnstone will go live on Zavvi next week.

M3GAN is released in UK cinemas on Friday 13th January.
