Gameplay: PES 2010 focuses on enhancing the excitement of matches between players, making for a truly challenging experience that will constantly test the player. Intuitive zonal defending will cover spaces and players need to look constantly for new ways to attack.
- Improved Visuals: PES 2010 has undergone a major visual revamp, with its celebrated player likenesses and animations now even closer to those of real-life players - including live player expressions to be depicted with an improved lighting system which differentiates between various conditions!
- All-new Animation and Moves: Animations now dovetail into each other seamlessly, with dribbling and shots on goals worked into dribbling animations. More individual skills are also on show, including new flicks and tricks that have a definite showing on the way a game flows.
- Match-Day Atmosphere: Crowd reactions to the on-field action are now more varied, with all new chants and cheers. The subtle difference between Home and Away matches will be reproduced, and the crowd will react spontaneously to specific situations in a game, showing their disdain or pleasure as fouls are committed and goals scored.
- AI: The Tokyo team has worked to improve the AI of the game, with Teamvision 2.0 implemented. Midfielders and defenders now work together to cover open space and close down attacks, meaning that cover can be provided for lower-ranked defenders. This also has the additional effect of removing soft goals, thus returning PES 2010 to its simulation roots.
- Individual Play Characteristics: In previous PES games, the team formation has determined the movements of the players. PES 2010 introduces a new system wherein the individual attacking and defending nature of the players is integral to the way they play.

A barely fixed trainwreck
After the utterly awul PES2008 and PES2009, the Pro Evo Soccer series yet again tries to enter the 'next-gen' world, and again it falls flat of its objectives. It steals a few random features from FIFA (basically everything changed about the Master League mode for 2010 was carbon-copied off FIFA) and unnecessarily breaks the simple to use transfer system by forcing the user to spend months scouting a player before he has an idea whether the player is interested, plus massively reducing the amount of transfers you can do. In gameplay terms, it's still nowhere near the level of control old Pro Evolution Soccer games gave you, and the "360° dribbling" was rushed in after FIFA announced the same feature - it's more of a 16-ways dribbling compared to the previous 8-directional dribbling PES had for years. The ball physics are still terrible and the "TeamVision" AI now just passes the ball around in defense. In the latter point, it's even considerably worse than 2008 and 2009. 2/5 for a developer that hasn't managed a decent game in three years.

PES 2010: Pro Evolution Soccer
This is by far the best effort yet from the Pro Evo guys, it's come a long way since the first one i had about 5 years ago with dodgy player names etc. The graphics and gameplay are excellent with players like Ronaldo and Kaka able to twist and turn defenders like they do in reality and the atmosphere at the stadiums is fantastic. Very realistic as well as i won the champions league with Man Utd at the first attempt and Liverpool got knocked out of the group stage and City finished outside the top 4 :) All in all this is everything you want from a football game, almost as exciting as the real thing!

Not quite as good as FIFA...but still brilliant
I must admit I'm not a big fan of football games and my son has both Pro Evo and FIFA. Overall FIFA is a bit more 'fun' although that might be because I played FIFA on the Wii. I must admit though that the actual gameplay of PES is a lot better, feels much more technical and there's a lot of cool moves you can do.
