Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams was originally released in 2001, and revolves around the protagonist James Sunderland, a heartbroken man who is grieving over the death of his beloved wife Mary. The story begins when James receives a letter from Mary, who died three years ago, asking James to meet her at their special place in the town of Silent Hill. Still devastated by her death, James goes to Silent Hill in the hope of seeing her again, and gets so much more than he bargained for. James suddenly finds himself in the zombie infested town, where all of his guilt, deepest secrets, and nightmares have come to life and are pursuing him. Redefine the survival horror genre as you play James, and run from the terrifying demon Pyramid Head as you search for the truth you appear to have repressed.
Silent Hill 3 was originally released in 2003, and is a direct sequel to the first game in the saga: Silent Hill. The game is set seventeen years after the events of the first, when the hero Harry Mason was given a baby girl to care for after defeating a god who was summoned by Silent Hill's residential cult. The girl, named Heather, is now seventeen and inexplicably drawn into the alternate reality of the town of Silent Hill. The cult is still in existence and are now pursuing Heather as they need her as part of one of their occult rituals, in order to use her to birth their god. Play Heather in this spine-chilling sequel, as you attempt to unravel the truth about your birth, and survive the horror you have found yourself in.
Experience once more the thrilling and pioneering games that redefined the survival horror genre in glistening high definition quality, with each suspenseful and terrifying minute keeping you on the edge of your seat. (Cat Emerson)

Average port, stunning games.
Let's get this straight: Silent Hill 2 is still the greatest horror game of all time. Near perfect atmosphere; intelligent story; complicated, layered characters; and probably the single most iconic monster in all of gaming - Pyramid Head. The port has some graphical issues and animation flaws, most of which were fixed with a patch, but you simply MUST play Silent Hill 2 if you're a fan of horror. And make sure you select the original voices to get the best experience. Silent Hill 3 is also a great horror, but there's a little too much action for my liking. However, there are some absolutely terrifying moments and they're well worth playing for.

Great games, bad compilation
There's no doubt that Silent Hill 2 & 3 are two of the best games of last generation of consoles. Plot, characters development, setting, atmosphere... all of this parts are awesome and trully recommendable. The problem is the conversion itself isn't very good. There are issues with the frame-rate and cut-scenes, the fog is messed up in Silent Hill 2 and you can say that the game plays itself worse than it did in Playstation 2 and Xbox. Overall, they are still amazing games, but if you have the originals, you better keep them and pass on this HD "collection". Finally, I still don't understand why Silent Hill 4 is not in this.

Review of Silent Hill HD Collection
Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 on one disc. I didn't buy this for the sake of it being in HD but for the convenience of having them available to play on the PS3 after my PS2 died long ago. Both HD games have dialogue recorded by new voice actors when a lot of fans would have much preferred the originals. Thankfully both the original and new voices are available to choose between when playing SH2 but unfortunately not for SH3. There are also a few other niggles such as SH2's water effects looking bad in comparison to the original PS2 version and some needless sound effect changes which actually made one of the creepy moments less effective. In SH3's case the character tended to slow down a lot in the outdoor areas of the game. I've heard that there has since been a patch made available to rectify some of the problems though I have yet to use it myself. I would recommend the HD Collection if you simply want to be able to play these games on a newer console or if you have yet to play them ( Silent Hill 2 is generally considered the best in the series and has a very strong and moving storyline ) - just keep in mind that they are not quite the best versions compared to the original PS2 ones. I've marked the HD Collection as "Good" since both games are well worth playing and are great survival horror.

Silent Hill HD Collection
Silent Hill and Resident Evil were both phenomenal horror games with scary game playing and creatures, puzzles but Silent Hill 2 was one of the best of series, and the remake of this 2nd game is great dejavu after a decade. Downpour or Raccoon City were both disasters - horror game fans want more puzzles, more survival, more scary original scenarios. I don't think a horror game should look like an action or shooter game, because you can't feel the same as you did decades ago, if you just run with fully loaded modern heavy arms on hand. Silent Hill 3 was not that great, and was quite the same as the 2nd. I recommend you give it a shot, as it brings back some nice memories.
