Departure from the Battlefield formula

It's a competent shooter in a lot of ways, but there are a few infuriating design decisions that hold this game back from being truly good. It's a linear game, but the missions take place in very large sandbox-style environments. Usually you'll get a vehicle for traversal and that's all fine but there are large portions of the game where you'll need to travel by foot and for some crazy reason they've mapped sprinting to holding down the thumb stick. It feels completely awful and and the stick feels like it's going to break from all the pressure even if you're not pressing it hard. It sounds like a stupid thing to complain about but it feels completely infuriating. Also the story feels completely disjointed. There's no proper common thread binding the whole story together, so the campaign just feels like a bunch of random skirmishes tacked together with some mediocre cinematics tacked between them. The shooting is pretty satisfying and the buildings blow up in a cool way but there are far better shooters than this. The sequel suffers from a lot of the same problems but it feels like a much more complete package than BC1.
