Very Good!

I made a mistake with this game, I bought it thinking it would be a 1940's Grand Theft Auto and I have a feeling a lot of reviewers on other sites have done the same. By this I mean I thought it would follow a similar design to GTA, free roam with missions as semi-optionial. If this is all you want, don't buy this game. From the first paragraph, you're probably wondering why I gave this game 4 stars? Well it's because it made a nice change, it was cinematic, dramatic, humorous in places and very story driven. I'd like to call it an interactive movie but Heavy Rain pulled that off a lot more so it's hard to put Mafia 2 into a genre. It is based in an open environment which is very detailed but you aren't really given time to free roam, you can stop by shops pick up a new suit or a beer but there are no side missions/activities and gets boring quickly. I'd like to give a big thumbs up to the graphics. The APEX Physx stuff is incredible but also very power hungry, so make sure you have a good system. But I hear that this game does not run very well on ATI cards (Another reason why I like to pay a little more for Nvidia), but it's not just Mafia 2 so I won't score it down for it. The environments are incredibly detailed with deteriorating cover and amazing explosions and fire, it really helps immerse the player. The story is very well driven and you can really feel how tough Vito's life is and has been and you really get a true feeling of being in the mob business, not knowing who to trust and constant struggle for money and turf. I'd love to talk more about the story but don't want to give too much away. The last star would have been given for a freeroam mode, having such a beautiful and bustling city seems wasted, they could have created a very good sandbox game with a little bit of work, several missions felt like they could have spawned side-mission spin-offs (Selling illegal cigarettes, bringing cars to the dump for scrap, assassinations). I'd like to stress once more, if you're looking for a GTA style experience, look else where as you will be sorely disappointed with this game. However if you're after a great story with an awesome cinematic feel to it then this game will leave you satisfied. I've played through it on normal difficulty which took me about 13 hours, I'm sure if play on hard it will be much longer.

Amazing!

Seriously amazing, music, scenery, cars, the people are absolutely amazing. I have read some of the reviews for this game and I feel they were grossly mistaken. Try the demo for the PC and then buy the game. You won't be disappointed!

Missing something

The game is great, it's almost like a GTA game. Mafia, cops (who you can bribe), old cars and playboy collectibles - what more can you want? I'll tell you what - a multiplayer mod. But don't let that keep you from buying this game. It's one hell of a game, don't miss out on it.
