Disgaea 3: Absence Of Detention for the PS Vita is the third in the worldwide loved Disgaea series, and is the revamped edition of Disgaea 3: Absence Of Justice, which was originally released for the PlayStation 3 console in 2008. Absence Of Detention is a Japanese tactical role playing game that challenges players to think outside of the box as it throws a multitude of battles on isometric maps at you and the character group you control.
The story revolves around Mao, who attends a school called the Evil Academy in the Netherworld. This school is completely topsy turvy compared to the schools of the norm, where the most devious students who skip class and cause trouble are Honor Students, and the goody two shoes kids are known as delinquents. Mao gets inspired by a comic book to become a hero, and decides he must relinquish his Honor Student ways and defeat his father, the Dean of Nether Institute Evil Academy, in order to achieve his title and become the Overlord. Mao's rival Raspberyl, the number one delinquent in school, hears of his plan and sets out to stop him so she can remain number one. Join the most bizarre group of characters you will ever meet on this wacky adventure, where the battle between good and evil is completely back to front.
The gameplay is Absence Of Detention is based upon a chain of events, starting with an event as the catalyst which progresses the story, and culminating in a battle against foes that are attempting to hinder your progress. Battle is turn-based, and revolves around teamwork within your group, with team attacks depending on an adjacent ally assisting the attacking character, therefore dealing more damage in only one character's turn. Alongside team attacks, there are also combo attacks where you consecutively attack the same enemy, life and throw attacks where you can lift characters or objects on the battle map to either help or hinder them, as well as special moves including healing. Every character you encounter will have a unique Evility, for instance Mao's Evility is Violent Courage, where his stats will increase according to how many enemies he is facing in battle.
Disgaea 3: Absence Of Detention boasts a multitude of new character stories, battle systems, dungeons, attack levels, puzzles, and bosses compared to the previous PlayStation version, meaning every inch of the game has been completely revitalised for the Vita. Absence Of Detention introduces an innovative new feature entitled the Honor Quotient, which is a system designed to track how far you have travelled whilst playing the game; the further the distance, the higher your Honor Quotient will rise, so carry your Vita with you at all times! Winning battles, and increasing your total play time will also raise your Quotient, which results in more experience and mana points, as well as item discounts at shops, amongst other things. Follow Mao and his friends and enemies around the Netherworld, and encounter all kinds of bizarre adventures. (Cat Emerson)

amazing game
Disgaea 3 has everything. Great customization of characters, a funny and interesting story and many things to discover. It's a good rpg with strategy elements. If you have time to spend, this game is worth it since there are many things to do even after you finish the main story.

Absolutely wonderful
This game is truly excellent. It fits the PSV nicely and it can be played both in quick sessions and mammoth marathons. If you want a weird, absolutely funny and truly nearly endless strategy/tactics RPG for your Vita then this is the one and only option. It is good then that it is such a great game. Mao is hilarious, the setting is great and the music and story are both wicked and weird in a good way. This game will need out of you around the 60 hour mark to finish. After that you got multiple endings, secret characters, secret worlds and do not even get me started on the character and item built options. Just buy this game and thank me later.

An improved version of an excellent game
Disgaea 3: Absense of Detention was already awesome on PS3 but the Vita version improves this game a lot thanks to its portability. Furthermore, the whole game and all the extra DLC included makes this game almost infinite!

Great vita game
If your looking for a game that will last a long time to play on your vita then i would say this is the obvious choice, its great if you wanna be playing for a few hours or you just want it as a pick up and play game it works as both, it is also good for novice strategy gamers or experienced ones with a great learning curve and options to change the difficulty of enemies, controls work great and is an all round great strategy game with plenty of humour , a must buy for the vita

Book the next year off
Disgaea 3 on the PS Vita is a strategy RPG in the Final Fantasy Tactics mould, but with a huge dose of fourth-wall breaking and knowing nods to gaming conventions thrown in. The amount of content available is truly staggering with a multi-hour main campaign, all the PS3 DLC included by default, and nearly limitless post-game content. It's this post-game content that really lifts Disgaea from the kind of game that will last you a hardcore week, into one that is nearly limitless. Every single item has 100 levels you can play through, and there are hundreds of items. And monsters. And characters you can recruit. The game tops out at level 9999 but even then you can still tweak your team to do damage in the billions. The graphics are easy on the eye but a little bit of a mixed bag with backgrounds and cut-scenes looking much sharper than the sprites, but this isn't a game about Uncharted eye-candy. You can pick up and play for a quick ten minutes, but easily play all day if you desire. And you will. It's more addictive than almost anything you can think of. If you doubt the Vita has the killer app then doubt no more. Disgaea 3, Absence of Detention will appeal to even the most jaded gamer and is an absolute steal.
