Wimbledon Gentlemen's Final 2013: Novak Djokovic vs. Andy Murray 'Winning Wimbledon, I can't get my head around that. I still can't believe it's happened', the words of Andy Murray after he beat Novak Djokovic to become Wimbledon 2013 Gentlemen's Champion.
As he walked out onto Centre Court on 7th July 2013, Murray knew what he had to do to become the first male British Wimbledon Champion since Fred Perry in 1936. A packed crowd of sporting heroes, politicians, celebrities and members of the public joined the nation watching nervously on TV to witness British sporting history in the making.
The final score showed 6-4, 7-5, 6-4, but it was never that easy. With temperatures on court reaching 40C, the intensity of play from the players ranked world no. 1 and 2 was mesmerising. World class shots and athleticism meant the momentum swayed back and forth with frequent breaks of serve. In the final nail biting 12 minute game, Djokovic saved 3 Championship points, but on the 4th his backhand return hit the net.
The nation had dared to dream and Murray made that dream a reality, last year Murray said 'I'm getting closer!' - This year Great Britain has a new hero and the nation can finally celebrate...
