Rivetting

This must be the biggest bargain of the year. Fantastic seems too inadequate a word to describe it. Realism as to the acting, uniforms and ladies dresses, the battle scenes and locations. I especially liked the portrayal of the arrogance of the officers who for the most part were absolutely clueless, and even cowardly. It also gave an insight as to the brutality meted out to the common soldiers who were flogged for the slightest fault, such as collapsing due to sheer fatigue.

fabulous - a must buy

The Sharpe series has to be the best series that ever existed in the history of everness! This box set contains all the original Sharpe dvds from the original TV series (not the two new ones) and is a bargain for the price. Set in the napoleonic war, Sharpe is the central character. A rugged soldier who throughout the series gets raised in the ranks to a Lieutenant Colonel. The plots are obviously dated (with being set in the 1800's) but are from an era where men had manners, flogging was an acceptable punishment and war was all a soldier knew. Not everyones cut of tea but the character portrayed by sean bean is unique, strong and resilient, likeable by both male and female. While war is going on in all the episodes (which are more like individual films) there are many plot twists with sharpe and his small unit of "chosen" men being the ones who have to fix it, kill it, blow it up, break it, rescue it - it's like the A-team of the 1800's! By far the best thing I have ever watched and I don't even like history!
