This collectable set includes three of director Chan-Wook Park's most celebrated films; his vengeance trilogy. Although the films do not follow on from one another, they have the same central theme at their centres; retribution and its effects on both the victim and the aggressor.
This collection of three ultra-violent films includes Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy And Lady Vengeance.
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002)
Deaf mute Ryu (Shin Ha-Kyun) has saved all his hard-earned money for his sister who requires a kidney transplant. He has the wrong blood type to be able to donate one of his kidneys, so he arranges a trade with a group of black-market organ dealers: one of his kidneys and 10 million won in return for their finding a kidney for his sister. Just as the criminals renege on the deal, a legitimate kidney becomes available for transplant. Unfortunately, Ryu no longer has the 10 million won required for the hospital to perform the operation. In retaliation, he and his political activist girlfriend kidnap his former boss's daughter - but events quickly spiral quickly out of control...
Old Boy (2003)
Is another vibrant and twisted revenge thriller. Oh Dae-Su (Choi Min-Sik) has never taken his role as husband and father seriously and has just been released from police custody for drunk and disorderly behaviour on his own baby daughter's birthday. When he finds himself in solitary confinement in a prison cell after being mysteriously abducted on the street, he has no idea what is going on or why. A year into his imprisonment, he learns from the small television in his cell that his wife is dead, and that he himself is suspected of the crime. When, fifteen years later, he is released as suddenly and inexplicably as he was detained, he is determined to track down his tormentors and wreak his revenge. But little does he know that his kidnappers have even worse horrors in store for him...
Lady Vengeance (2005)
Geum-ja Lee (Yeong-ae Lee) is a young woman who works for underworld crime boss Mr Baek (Min-sik Choi). Taking the fall for the abduction and murder of a child, Geum-ja is sent to prison at the age of 19. When she realises that she has been framed by Mr Baek himself, she spends 13 years in prison planning her revenge. On her release, she exacts her vengeance against Mr Baek's goons, before a final confrontation with the mentor who betrayed her.

Great Collection
Fantastic collection of films, great Blu-Ray upgrade if you own the previous DVDs. A must own for fans of thrillers and action films.

Intriguing!
Compelling stories with numerous plot twists. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is my favourite out of the trilogy; excellent acting in Old Boy.

Mostly good.
All three films of the Vengeance Trilogy are classics and just brilliant, far better than a lot of American films that are made. Quality of the Blu-rays are mostly good except for Lady Vengeance which was a bit grainy throughout. Apart from that fast delivery and a fair price for films that are a work of art.

Best deal for all three movies
Couldn't find the Vengeance Trilogy cheaper anywhere and that's whats been stopping me from a purchase before. The box is nothing spectacular but its nice to have all three films in the same cover at least.

Vengeance Trilogy - Zavvi Exclusive
The Vengeance Trilogy - Zavvi Exclusive itself is nice. It's not too big so it won't use too much space on your shelves. All 3 films are interesting, but obviously Old Boy stands out as the best one. Sympathy for Mr Vengeance is a good piece considering the low budget, with interesting twists in the story. Additional info would have been nice though, as it can be a little difficult to apprehend at times (one of the main characters is both deaf and mute, and a little more voice over to express his thoughts would have helped at times). The main interest in it for me is the way the director showed 2 characters with a vengeance to accomplish, and their different motives and point of view. Old Boy, which you surely have seen already, is a great film in all aspects. It has a big twist in the story, perfect images, great acting, unforgettable action scenes, it has it all. With Lady Vengeance, I loved the long ending and I'll let you discover it for yourself. The downside to it however is the fact that there are too many characters involved considering the duration of the film. It would have been better off with less characters, or a longer duration. It's a little hard to follow at some points, however, the image is great, and so is the acting. All in all, it's a great buy considering the low price.

Classics
The Vengeance Trilogy - Zavvi Exclusive is very different from the usual Hollywood fodder. These films make you think about morality, and create a hazy line between right and wrong. They really get you thinking, and have very well-paced directing.

Vengeance Trilogy - Zavvi Exclusive
Three incredible films by one of the best Asian directors. These Blu-rays are of impeccable quality, with great picture, sound, and a lot of interesting special features. One thing you should be aware of however, is that these are identical to the previous release of these films. The same discs have simply been put in a new case, which is a standard size Blu-ray case fitted to house 3 discs. If you do not already own these films, this set is a must, but you're not getting anything over previous releases.
